Story questions for your followers
Last updated: 28 September 2026 · The Sea Messages safety team
The best way to get lots of messages is a clear, kind question. Pick one from this list, write it on your story with your island link, and let your followers answer without their names. Every question here is written to make the reader smile, not squirm.
How do I use these questions?
Copy a question you like, start a new story, write it over the ready-made story picture (Make a story sticker on the Me tab), then add the link sticker with your island link. One question per story works better than a long list, and changing it every few days keeps followers interested.
Questions about you
These questions invite friends to tell you what they rarely say face to face: their first impression, what they like about you, and what they've learned from you. They bring in the kindest messages.
- What was your first impression of me?
- What's something you wish I knew about myself?
- What talent do you think I don't know I have?
- Which song reminds you of me?
- What advice would you like to give me?
- What do I do that makes you smile?
- If I were a place, where would I be?
- Describe me in one kind word.
- What's something you've learned from me?
- Where do you see me in five years?
Questions for friends and memories
Shared memories make messages warm and personal. These questions suit a story your close friends will see, and open the door to words that haven't been said yet.
- What's our best memory together?
- When did we laugh until we cried?
- What should we do together this year?
- When did you feel I was there for you?
- What have you never told me that you'd like to say now?
- What's the first thing you remember about me?
- If we travelled together, where would we go?
- Which food reminds you of me?
- Which day would you love to live again with me?
- Which film or TV character is most like me?
Light, fun questions
Not every message needs to be about feelings. Light questions make it easy for anyone to write to you, even people who don't know you well, and fill your week with good suggestions.
- Recommend a series I should watch this week.
- Which song can't you stop playing lately?
- If you had a whole day off, how would you spend it?
- Coffee or tea? Why?
- What small thing fixes your mood instantly?
- Recommend me a book or a podcast.
- What's the strangest food you tried and loved?
- If you had one superpower, what would it be?
- What do you want to learn this year?
- Describe your perfect day in three words.
Questions for encouragement
On hard days, a kind message from someone you can't see can turn things around. These questions ask followers for encouragement, and remind them that kindness is contagious too.
- Send me something kind my day needs.
- What are you proud of me for?
- Remind me of something nice I did and forgot.
- Write me a line to read on a hard day.
- What do you think I worry about more than I need to?
- What do you hope happens for me this month?
- Tell me something you like about the way I treat people.
- What small win have you noticed from me lately?
- Write me a message to read a year from today.
- What word do you need to hear today?
Questions we suggest avoiding
Questions asking for "brutal honesty", rating looks or spilling secrets bring in more hurtful messages than kind ones. We check every message before it arrives, but a kind question is the first protection for your shore.
- Rating looks or comparing people.
- "Bold", embarrassing or secret-spilling questions.
- Asking for opinions about another person by name.
- Anything you wouldn't want to be asked yourself.
How do I reply to messages?
Open the bottle and write back; your reply reaches the sender even if they're anonymous. If you love a message, share it with your reply as a card in your story: it makes the writer's day and reminds everyone else of your link. If a message is hurtful, don't reply; block and report it.
